Ride for Sunday, 30 July
Took a ride down to Peggy's Cove doing the anticlockwise route. I felt virtuous on the ride down there into the headwind, knowing I should hit a tailwind on the other side of the peninsula. So much for that idea, the wind turned into a sidewind around the bottom of the peninsula, then back into a headwind when I started heading back up the peninsula on the other side - it's really discouraging to see real estate boards pointing at me almost horizontally!

Shit, I hate that. When you have been struggeling into the headwind knowing that soon, soon, you are going to get tailwind. And then it doesn't happen.
It happened to me this spring on my first club event. It was a 100 km ride 50 km south and then 50 km back north. The headwind on the way down was terrible and since it was early in the season the fitness of the late atumn was long gone.
We just kept hanging in encouraging ourselfs that soon, soon we are going to turn back and boy, what a tailwind we are going to get.
Not! The wind felt as strong on the way back as on the way down. It had been some freaky sidewind all the time. And now we where tired and discouraged. It was a hellish 50 km back. But as usual you feel like a million when you cross the finish line. Maybe even a million and a half considering the circumstances.
