Ride home for Thursday, 15 November

Went down to Ideal after work and took photos of some bikes. Ran into Doug while I was down there, he came in to get his brakes adjusted on his new bike. We rubbed our chins for a while and discussed the merits of various brake pads until Chris came over and said, "no, man, it just needs tightening more". I'm still sticking with my salmon Koolstops, though...

After I got my bike all sorted I met up with Doug again and we headed off to the first public meeting of the Halifax Cycling Coalition. This is a new coalition along the lines of the Vancouver Cycling Coalition (or will be, with any luck) that will advocate for cyclists in Halifax. The meeting was surprisingly well attended, and there were a lot of people I've never seen before so it was good to see it wasn't just the usual suspects! There were reps from Bicycle Nova Scotia and TRAX there, and they were both strongly in favour of what we were doing. The next step looks to be to set up as a non-profit organisation, and fortunately there were people there with experience in that area that volunteered to collate the necessary information.

After the meeting I headed off to see my friend who got hit walking through a crosswalk. Looking at the damage it looks like the gallon of paint he was carrying acted as a shock absorber and saved him from serious injury, but he's still in pain from the knee, hip, neck and jaw. We commiserated over the state of drivers in Halifax and agreed that the only solution was to kill them all and leave it to God to sort them out.
